description de l'évènement: On 20 April conference participants can follow a course Biorefinery, which is compiled by WUR Food and Biobased Research, IEA Bioenergy Task 42 and EC FP7 Biorefinery Project Bioref-Integ. This will include the following aspects: generic release regarding biorefinery, current status and development, upgrading of existing industrial, Upgrading of existing infrastructure to industrial biorefinery complexas. lignocellulose / green / aquatic biorefineries, sustainability and policy aspects of biorefinery and two practical cases.

In the morning, on 21 April, an overview of the LignoValue Project will be given. A research made possible by the ‘Agentschap NL’ of the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs. The main goal of this project is to create value of the Lignin component through the production of lignin phenols, high quality products and fuel additives. The Project Manager is Richard Gosselink of Wageningen University Food & Biobased Research. Other partners in the project are the University of Groningen (RUG), ECN (Energy Research Center Netherlands), WUR valorisation of vegetable production and the English Aston University. They also provide lectures on the technical aspects of the valuation of lignin and the socio-economic impact of lignin valorisation.

In the afternoon there will be given 3 workshops where the public is invited to actively join the discussion. The workshop topics are 2 times repeated in a different order so all participants have the opportunity to attend the workshops. The following subject will be covered: Regional processing of biomass, Biohydrogen and Cellulose Ethanol.
- Biohydrogen is extracted from biomass and / or biodegradable waste residues. Hydrogen is a gas you will not find outdoors. The H2 molecule is in many substances, such as water. It can be produced by electrolysis or biohydrogen via gasification of biomass. Biohydrogen can be used to power a vehicle.
- Cellulosic ethanol is a biofuel produced from wood, grasses, or non-edible parts of plants. Bio-ethanol can be used as transport fuel.

On Thursday, 22 April, there will also be given 3 workshops with the following subjects: pyrolysis, co-fermentation and dimethyl ether.
- Pyrolysis is a form of thermolysis without the presence of oxygen. Pyrolysis of wood starts above 300°C and this process is converted into a liquid timber, more condensed oil. Pyrolysis is used for biomass energy to condense into a compact and transportable oil.
- In co-fermentation produced by fermentation of manure and co-products in a biogas cogeneration (CHP plant) is converted into electricity or heat and (some time) is supplied directly to methane. This technique has several environmental benefits. First, manure is stored significantly less time making it a substantial reduction of greenhouse gases (methane, nitrous oxide) yields. Second, the technique provides an excellent product that is used as fertilizers (mineral, effective organic matter).
